My husband, Colin, and I had thought a lot about what to do for Natalie’s 8th birthday. Eight is a lucky number in Chinese culture (translates as fortune), so we wanted her 8th birthday to be eventful. It is from this age that I can think back to my own childhood, the point where I started to keep those special memories to remember for the rest of my life.
We thought a princess-themed high tea would be perfect for Natalie. Her favourite colour is pink, so we planned and decorated with this in mind. Lanterns, rose petals, mirrors and balloons adorned the whole venue.
The party planning began with us sending electronic invitations to guests to get the excitement started. Oatlands House Co-ordinator and Event Stylist, Naomi Khoudair, helped with the planning, catering and styling of the party. Games and party activities included a princess jumping castle, carousel, petting zoo with ponies and cupcake decorating, and princess entertainers organised other fun kid activities, such as a treasure hunt and face painting.
Naomi and her team from Oatlands House did such a wonderful job in keeping Colin and I relaxed and able to enjoy the party, and catered to every detail, including looking after guests with special dietary requirements.
Parents of little guests and Natalie’s friends were treated to a high tea that included a lucky-dip gift, fairy floss, macarons and a chocolate fountain.
On the day, everything looked beautiful, just as we hoped it would – even the sun came out to shine. It was wonderful to see all the kids so happy and enjoying the day. The appreciation shown by Natalie, who took the time to give me extra hugs and kisses during the party, was a very special moment shared between us.
I know this party will be a wonderful memory for Natalie when she grows up – the friends whose names and faces will be with her forever, just through a little effort on our part organising a memorable party for her and her friends.
