baby leo’s nursery

Who lives here?
Leo, eight months.

Can you describe the style of the room?
Leo’s nursery is a serene and calm space that oozes sophistication. While it’s very neutral, it’s rich on texture with leather and timber elements to keep it masculine.

What inspired you to choose this theme?
Working in the field, I wanted to go for something clients weren’t asking for. It’s important for me to stay ahead of trends so I took the opportunity to create a room that would inspire clients to think outside the box.

What’s your child’s favourite part of the room?
Leo’s a big fan of trying to pull the mobile down!

What’s your favourite thing about/piece in the room?
There isn’t one thing I don’t love in there. If I did have to pick though, I do adore my nursing chair.

What were the main challenges you faced creating this space?
Narrowing down my selections. I see so many beautiful products every day, it’s hard to stop.

Are there any family heirlooms or vintage pieces you’ve included in this space, if so can you tell us the story behind them?
There are a few special little things in Leo’s room. The toy box was an old discarded egg box out at my husband’s family farm. We added wheels and I painted our surname and year of marriage on there. I think it is a piece that will be treasured by our family. The side table is also a piece of timber from the farm as well.

Can you tell us about any handmade or DIY elements you incorporated?
The dresser is a basic Ikea piece, but I made leather pulls instead of the standard handles.

What are your top tips for creating a room like this?
It’s easy to go overboard when creating a room. Know when to stop, when to follow trends (and when not to) and use pieces that are important to your family and little one.

Best cost-cutting tip/best buy?
The leather handles were my best buy. I was all set to order some online at $20 each and I managed to get it all done for $25 instead.
