The first skateboard I ever bought was for my eldest son (18), when he was seven. It was his birthday wish. He personalised it with stickers from the skate store and treasured it for years, replacing wheels and trucks as he saw fit.
The first time these two spied a board was at the end of this winter when we took three Penny Skateboards down to our local beach for a skate.
It was an unseasonably warm day and we could feel the promise of spring in the air as they skylarked about, sand in their toes, wheels under their feet.
There’s a bona fide skate park down there with people that know what they’re doing, but my kids were happy just to cruise on the boardwalk and go for ice cream after.

Max and Rose love these charity bracelets. Max decided they’re not just for wrists (below).
In the spirit of fun spring outings and the September issue of CHILD Mags, we’re giving two child mags blog readers the Soda Fade 22″ Penny Skateboard, or the Fresh Prints 27″ Penny Skateboard from this post. Yay!
My kids loved them both, so it’s really up to you which board you think your kid would love – just make your pick and email us.
1. Check out Penny Australia.
2. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘Penny Skateboards’ in the subject line. We will subscribe you to the *new* child mags blog newsletter.
3. In the body of the email, tell us your name and answer this question: which skateboard would you like to win and why?
Entries close midnight 30 September 2015. Good luck.
See Penny Skateboards featured in the September issue of CHILD Mags and follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Penny Skateboards is also running their own competition to celebrate the launch of the new Longboard, where you can win the escape of a lifetime. Check out Penny Skateboards for full T&Cs.
