Win 1 of 5 copies of There Is a Tribe Of Kids by Lane Smith. Reviewed by Bron Bates and her kids, Max (8) and Rose (4).
The kids and I love reading picture books together. Recently we had the chance to have a treehouse reading session with a few gorgeous new titles including There Is a Tribe Of Kids.
The story sees the main character (Max thought the main character was a boy and Rose thought it was a girl) visit with various groups from nature: different beasts, stars, rocks, the ocean and even funny caterpillars who turn into butterflies.
Starting with baby goats, each group is labelled accordingly (“There was a band of gorillas”) and extended upon with imaginative illustrations of the main character trying to fit in with each group.
One of the nice things about this book is that the character could be seen as either a girl or a boy, and it ends with the hero finding their own tribe of human kids. Fittingly for our reading session, they’re living in a giant treehouse.
This is a lovely book for reading with children and discussing the characteristics of animals and natural phenomena, as well as what it means to belong to our human ‘tribe’.
