Say hello to our October food + travel issue of CHILD Magazines.
When I look at my kids, I see gorgeous, talented little people who could do anything they put their minds to, we all do right? Seeing strengths in our own kids is like a parenting super power, I could rattle off a list of at least ten points per child. And yes, I’m wearing my rose-coloured glasses with pride.
But if I started gauging their ‘strengths’ by a more complex criteria, rather than just what they’re good at, that list is looking a bit shorter. Do they really love it? Do they get that sparkly-eye, quiet concentration face? Does a silence fall throughout the house? (The good kind, not the emptying-all-the-food-out-of-the-packets kind)
In this issue we talk about Strength Based Parenting or S.B.P. According to this framework, showing a natural talent for something is only one part of the picture.
As a parent, having a shorter list can be a huge positive. Knowing how to encourage your child is about a million times easier when you have a clear direction. All of a sudden, deciding whether to do those tediously long and expensive gymnastic classes, or prioritising keeping the art drawer stocked can be evaluated with a whole new level of clarity.
Also in this issue, moving to another country, no matter what the situation, is always going to be difficult, but what happens when your partner slips into their new life easier than you do? We talk to two families about their experience of relocating for business.
On the topic of food, we took a look into what other families eat daily around the world. What’s on your family table?
We had so much fun creating this month’s cover, thanks to Verve Photography and our cover kid Grace, who wore a summery Zimmermann peasant blouse under a sweet-as-a-pea Minouche pinafore. We teamed these with Saltwater sandals and spotty socks – why not? Do you want to see more pictures from the shoot? Check out what happens behind the scenes!
